ASCE Ninth Annual Seminar

Join us at the ASCE Ninth Annual Seminar in Texas! More information to follow soon.

Born from a commitment to safeguarding the integrity of academic research, the Academic Security and Counter Exploitation (ASCE) program, spearheaded by The Texas A&M University System’s RISC Institute, fosters a sense of community among university research security professionals, uniting them in a collaborative defense against emerging threats.

Since its inception in 2016, ASCE has been a beacon in the fight against foreign influence, equipping academic institutions with the knowledge and tools needed to protect their invaluable research. Now in its ninth year, the annual ASCE Seminar stands as the preeminent gathering for training, networking, and collaboration, laser-focused on fortifying the academic research enterprise.

Meet our team at the following events:

February 25, 2:30 PM-3:20 PM:  Research Security and Freedom of Science: Case Studies from German Universities

with Christian Strowa (Director DAAD North America and DWIH NY), Ben Brisch (Head of Division Knowledge Exchange, DAAD), Karen Shire (Vice Rector University Duisburg-Essen), Adam Lipski (Chief Travel Safety Manager, Frankfurt University), Holger Impekoven (Vice Provost, University of Bonn)

February 27, 1:30 PM-2:20 PM: Domestic and International Harmonization in Research Security Panel

This panel will explore approaches to domestic harmonization through three key case studies: University of Toronto’s Research Security Unit, the University of Bonn’s senior management practices, and the DAAD/DWIH’s role in fostering institutional collaboration. The discussion will expand to examine pathways for a transatlantic harmonization of research security measures between like-minded partners on both sides of the Atlantic, widening the scope on perspectives from the European Union and the United States and taking into account Canada’s recent membership in Horizon Europe. By addressing shared challenges and leveraging opportunities, this workshop aims to foster a productive dialogue on aligning policies and practices across borders to strengthen research security and international collaboration.
