A team from the Chair of Organic Chemistry II at Ruhr University Bochum plans to explore exactly how chemical processes in ice mixtures contributed to the emergence of life on Earth. The research group has set out to gain insights into how the building blocks of life were created by recreating conditions from space on Earth.

Protection for digital contracts
Anyone who uses digital contracts – also called smart contracts – should be careful about hacker attacks. Prof. Dr. Lucas Davi from University of Duisburg-Essen’s Institute of Software Technology paluno is developing a solution to find and fix security gaps in the contracts during programming and later in use. For this, he received a starting grant of 1.5 million euros from the European Research Council (ERCA).

The University of Cologne’s North America Office celebrated its 10th anniversary at the German House in New York on May 26 with a festive in-person event, featuring art, music, networking, and the panel discussion “Transatlantic Perspectives on Quantum Science and Technologies.” The honorary guest was Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Axel Freimuth, heading a delegation from the University of Cologne. The DWIH team took this anniversary as an opportunity to talk with Dr. Eva Bosbach, Executive Director of the University of Cologne North America Office.

Competence Network “EIN Quantum NRW” launched
Further expanding national leadership in the research and development of quantum technologies, training specialists for this future field and developing applications for business and large-scale industry in the heart of Europe – these are the goals of the new quantum computing network “EIN Quantum NRW,” which pools the expertise of its partners.
