How can artificial intelligence address social and ecological challenges? The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) is seeking a dedicated postdoctoral researcher for the project “Impact AI: Evaluating the Impact of AI for Sustainability and Public Interest.”

Is transdisciplinarity more than just a buzzword to you – is it the type of research that excites you? Does evaluation represent more than a formal requirement for you, serving instead as an opportunity to conduct a detailed and robust analysis of the societal impact of AI systems?

Through 15 case studies, our research team is collaborating with partners such as Greenpeace and the Economy for the Common Good to develop a transdisciplinary method for auditing AI projects. The goal is to evaluate the opportunities and limitations of AI systems in driving social transformation and ecological sustainability. To support this ambitious initiative, HIIG is seeking a researcher to contribute to the scientific, organizational, and strategic dimensions of the project. The position is fixed-term for five years, based in Berlin, with a minimum 70% FTE. Remuneration is in accordance with TV-L 13 or 14, depending on qualifications, and includes additional allowances for family, literature, and travel expenses. The project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation under the Change! Fellowship Programme.

Does this position interest you? If so, we look forward to receiving your application, including a detailed CV, a short motivation letter, relevant certificates and your earliest possible starting date. This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
