Visit “Nobel Heroes – Nobel Laureates photographed by Peter Badge”
On October 18, the photo exhibition “Nobel Heroes – Nobel Laureates photographed by Peter Badge” opened in cooperation with the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in the gallery of the German House. The exhibition will be on display until November 30, 2022 where you can visit it weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM.
The photographer Peter Badge was born in 1974 and studied art history in Berlin. He initially worked as a freelance photographer for various magazines and soon began developing his own projects. With portraiture as his primary focus, Badge has photographed artists, scientists and politicians to create photographic series such as “Men on the Moon – From Armstrong to Aldrin”, “Icons of Economy” and “Philanthropists”.
The images in the exhibition show portraits of Nobel laureates from a wide range of fields. More than 20 years ago, Peter Badge set himself the goal of portraying every living Nobel Prize winner. In the process, he photographed them in their laboratories, homes or workplaces. By portraying them in their often private rooms, the viewer of the photographs can feel a certain closeness and intimacy to the Nobel Prize winners, who may often seem to be unapproachable. The project was made possible especially through the collaboration with the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.
Since their beginnings in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings foster the dialogue between scientists and students of different generations, cultures, and disciplines. The meetings are devoted alternately to physics, chemistry and medicine or physiology. The special atmosphere of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings is called the “Lindau Spirit” – due to the unique combination of scientifically focused and at the same time relaxed exchange. Moreover, there is a special connection to the United States. Besides the fact that most Nobel laureates were born in the U. S., many of those for whom the meetings are an integral part of their annual program teach and instruct at universities here in New York and across the country.
