Let’s Tackle the Knowledge-Action Gap
Time is running out. The international community has only eight years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the field of climate action (SDG 13), recent emission scenarios show that we have seven years left to decarbonize our economies. Extreme weather events, such as floods, storms, and forest fires are rapidly increasing.
At the same time, when we consider the sheer amount of collective knowledge, advances in technology, and adaptive skills humanity has developed, it becomes obvious that we have both the skills and the resources to turn climate goals into concrete actions. So why are we finding ourselves in a knowledge-action gap?
To bridge the gap between knowledge and action we need improved strategies, plans and operating procedures.
Why Scenario Development?
Scenario techniques can help identify key uncertainties and relevant trends towards more effective and accelerated change. These techniques hold the promise of further accelerating climate change mitigation by laying the foundation for more robust, coherent, and innovative climate action strategies. By training various stakeholders in “thinking the unthinkable,” we are better prepared for a myriad of potential futures.
We trust that workshop participants will take away strategic foresight tools that can help them build capacities and develop improved strategies and actionable plans.

Our Experts
Max Jungmann is the Founder and CEO of Momentum Novum, a sustainability consultancy based in Heidelberg, Germany, and Quito, Ecuador. He is also a researcher in the Climate Action Science Project at the University of Heidelberg. After studying political science as well as sociology, media and communication science at the Universities of Trier and Heidelberg, he completed his PhD on health policy challenges of climate change at the University of Heidelberg. He teaches seminars at the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy at Heidelberg University, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Steinbeis Business Academy (SBA), and the German Foreign Office. He is a trained scenario workshop facilitator and sustainability consultant. He has worked as a freelance journalist for many years, and has several years of experience in University level teaching. Max is a Climate Reality Leader and has served on the Senior Staff of National Model United Nations New York for over 7 years.Max Jungmann, Founder and CEO of Momentum Novum
Edwige Cavan, Senior Consultant, Momentum NovumEdwige Cavan is a Senior Consultant at Momentum Novum and has a broad international experience. She has worked at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States and as Political Advisor to the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, where she was responsible for scientific diplomacy and polar and ocean affairs. Edwige is a PhD candidate in American Studies/International Relations at the Sorbonne. She is an Arctic expert and has taught University courses in France and the United States. She is a Fulbright fellow.
Her core area of expertise whether from environmental, legal, or diplomatic angles is on maritime and ocean issues. Edwige’s research tackles the management of transboundary natural resources and of resources beyond national jurisdiction in the Arctic Ocean. She has been a research fellow at Brown University, Columbia University and Duke University where she has acquired a solid education in environmental and climate issues as well as in sustainability strategies.
